One Thousand Gifts

1000 Gifts

Calendar pages will flip again in a few days. The middle of the year. Already? Oh yes, we are in it. It is upon us. As we flip, let us list. You know, write, type, scratch, pen, ink, speak, or pray the things for which you are grateful. Gratitude. Is it a lost art? Perhaps, it is an emotion lost to the busyness and business of the day, like a neglected, yet yearning child, it is only evoked when recognized. Join me (and many others who gladly huddle together with Ann — the humble one who is the inspiration for this journey).

Your list,

maybe typed for the world’s eyes on a blog

or written with broken crayons while your child colors

or scratched on bits of paper and stuffed in a bedroom drawer

or neatly lined like soldiers, marching down your computer screen…

One of my favorite quotes is by Mother Teresa.

“We can do not great things;

only small things

with great love.”

Most likely would consider such a list a small thing. But in His eyes, when even our small things reflect His image, they are great. And when He is recognized as the Ultimate Giver of Gifts, your gratitude will pierce the darkness.

Here is part of what Ann wrote so eloquently and lovingly about One Thousand Gifts

“Yet my list is different than another’s for a reason: God has made me uniquely me. The Gift List is about gratitude… but it is more. It is about what defines me and my own personal identity. Reflecting on The Thousand Gifts List… “…cracking open a new book… pushing children on the swing…. old men looking at cards in the stationery aisle…” I am thankful for the things on it, yes, but I am also thankful that He has given the gift of me; that God made me who I am and I am one who sees and experiences the world in a way uniquely her own. The Thousand Gifts list is about the gifts Abba gives this child every day… and, ultimately, about the very gift of self, life as I know it.”

Starting my list.

One Thousand Gifts…no particular order, just conjured from my heart, moment by moment, grace by grace:

1. my salvation, given by Him

2. new friends

3. hearts meeting here, online

4. my crush on a boy that turned to marriage of a man

5. our son

6. His Son

7. wild iris flowers tucked in deep pasture grass

8. prayer

  1. Thanks for sharing. I did something like this about 10 ten years ago. I have already started this one in my journal, and I am going to challenge a few friends to join me.

If you have somethin' to say, I reckon this is where you should do it. (If you're a newbie hereabouts, your first comment will be held for approval - cuts down on spam.) Thank ye for chatting!
