An Invitation to Sew

Listening When He Speaks, Poetry, Prayer, Scripture Talk

“Cast down, O Lord, all the forces of cruelty and wrong. Defeat all selfish and worldly-minded schemes, and prosper all that is conceived among us in the Spirit of Christ and carried out to the honour of His blessed name.”

We serve an awesomely amazing God whose timing is perfect. The above quote is part of the prayer I read this morning in a little prayer book entitled, “A Diary of Private Prayer” by John Baillie.

I also was led to read Psalm 24 this morning. A Psalm of David with a theme that recognizes everything belongs to God. It is about opening the gates and letting the glory in. As I read the notes at the bottom of my NKJV Life Application Study Bible, I learned that the biblical scholars interpret the words to mean actual gates on an actual building.

People would gather outside the temple and holler for the gates to be opened unto them.

Then the priests would ask, “Who is the King of glory?”

And the people would respond in unison, “The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.”

Then the same procedure was repeated with the heaven-sent words of Psalm 24:9-10.

Finally, the temple gates would swing open wide, symbolizing the desire of the people to have God’s presence among them!

Perhaps those “gates” include the ones we have built around our hearts too… In order to conceive something (an idea, thought, plan, a Truth) in and of the Spirit of God, Christ first needs to be let in. No, He needs to be invited in with a strong, determined, focused heart.

Once He’s inside of there, amazing things happen!

   He loves.

       He heals.

          He leads.

   He leads.

       He heals.

          He loves.

Once He has our hearts filled with love

and mended with grace

we are ready to take our place,

among the saints

already open

to whatever the Spirit

conceives among us.

Now we can share our hearts a-full of love

and mended with His grace.

Yes, we are ready to lead

yet another

to this holy place.

Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory?
         The LORD strong and mighty,
         The LORD mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
         Lift up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory?
         The LORD of hosts,
He is the King of glory.

~Psalm 24:7-17

Do you daily sew the pieces of His fabric (a daily reading, a prayer, a scripture, a note, a song, a blog, a phone call, a conversation) to make yourself a lovely quilt…
