"Odd One Out"

Photo Story, Poetry

Am I the
only one
who
can both smell
and taste
Spring in
the way
of a blossom?

Open your
mouth
and put
your nose
next
to candy
blossom-tainted
air.

Be
still
and let
God
fill
all of your
senses.

I
smell crushed
Sweet-tarts.

I
taste summer’s
sugar
in the
anticipation

of her luscious,
dripping
fruit.

* Above poem includes an italicized line from an L.L. Barkat poem found on page 69 inside “InsideOut.”
It is my Random Acts of Poetry submission for this week’s High Calling Blog RAP dare.

Some more Spring…

Are you the odd one out?

Why?

Because you are set aside by God?

Or because you are running from Him?

* From the guts of my computer, a photograph from last year’s trip to the tulip farm. I sorely miss those fields of colored velvet. But I miss my neighbors who accompanied me, even more.

** more tulip stuff here

  1. The photo of the blossoms – surreal! Your photo and question about Odd One Out is prompting me. Happy Poetry month. 🙂 Lovely post

  2. I recognized that line. 🙂 So sweet that you chose it!"candyblossom-taintedair"…that was the part that made me really enter in to the poem. 🙂

  3. Am I the odd man out? To ponder and listen. A day for more senses and to stop and smell those delights. May your day be blessed and you be a blessing, ~ linda

  4. This post, and that photo. I've been thinking about this kind of thing for the past couple of years. A friend told me that certain personality types always feel they are on the outside.Anyway…Your words and poems—such beauty and smiling simplicity.
