Slaves of Righteousness

Listening When He Speaks, One Nation Under God

Lately I have been writing about summer and I have even been uploading photographs of an assortment of fun in the sun. That is all well and good. But, oh there is always a “but” when I hear the sounds of my soap box being pulled center-stage. And there, did you hear that? Oh, it was me. I did not gently and abashedly step onto its platform, no siree, I landed full-force, head held high, shoulders back, voice loud, and with a face upturned to God.

That is what you heard.

I reckon a lot of people wander around Blogland as a form of escapism. And perhaps Christians are the most active in that realm. After all, we are united by the blood of Jesus and when the world tips and seemingly spins out of control, we want some feel-good fodder on which to chew. Right?

My family doesn’t even own a TV or take the newspaper, but we are aware of and active in our world and in our community. I know of the pressures and the fear and the uncertainty. I admit that I also am guilty of searching for nibbles of comfort and fun and peace.

Is that what we are about though? Feeling good and hiding from the political wrecking balls that smash our walls of righteousness with such force that blocks and hunks cascade down, nearly crushing us?

Are we called to a life of inaction?

What about one of ignorance?

Folks, do you know what is bubbling and brewing and steeping in America’s unrighteous cups? Some of those in power, and it is not the majority as the evening news media would like you to believe, would like to strip your country’s freedoms and burn any ties to its godly founding principles. And this is being done all while you idle in the parking lots and living rooms and playgrounds across America.

In addition to taking to our knees in earnest prayer for our nation, we need to stand up, raise our voices, and speak out for those things that defy the very goodness of God. Make some phone calls to your politicians. Write some letters. Send some emails. Sign some petitions. Join some boycotts. It isn’t too hard. And even if it was, do it anyway! I am always reminded of Jesus throwing over the sales tables in the temple. He didn’t wait for someone else to do it. He wasn’t afraid of doing what was right.

This is not a plea for an overthrow or a call to join the ranks of the unruly. It is a call to pick a few battles and wield the weapons God has given you. It is a call to read the Truth and live by that code of honor.

God saved you from sin and an eternity in hell. Are you acting like a slave of His righteousness? Or are you going with the flow, merely hoping to keep your head above the crashing waves?

Right now, the Senate is gearing up for g for the confirmation votes of a Supreme Court nominee. This woman stands for so much that is wrong. She already has deceitfully wielded her power to secure the breadth and width of abortions by wrongfully inserting medical jargon into a legal document. Her belief and action list includes: abortions should be tax-payer funded; international law takes precedent; outlandish defiance of our military; advocation and promotion of homo-sexuality as morally sound; moving to a American socialistic government.

Sadly, there are plenty of other causes and rally cries that need your action as well. Click on these links and discover some issues. Get involved. Make calls. Send letters. Write emails. And yes, pray.

As not only Americans, but as citizens of heaven, we have duties to perform. Here. And now. Even if you are not an American, whatever land you call home, you also have a responsibility to stand-up for what is right and righteous and good.

Okay, I am almost ready to get off my box; however, I have something else to add before doing so. I get so annoyed and tired of people whining, but not doing anything. I get so riled at those who make excuses for their inactivity (lack of time, at work all day, I don’t know how, nobody will listen, etc.). Have you read about David and Goliath? Have you read about Nehemiah building a stone wall, not by himself, but by rallying everyone to do his/her share?

If my then 5-year old son could stand with me for hours in line at a Town Hall meeting last summer, take a number for chance that our Representative would pull it from the hat and give my kid a chance to talk, stand there holding his mamma’s hand as she secured a one-on-one meeting with their Representative (with TV cameras in our faces and The Wall Street Journal reporters taking notes), and nod his little head in agreement as his mamma reminded that man of our nation’s founding history and pleaded for the lives of the unborn, you surely can do something too.

Come on folks, our Commander is way bigger that any one person sitting in a White House. But in order for Him to act, He needs His people stand up, raise our voices, and speak out for those things that defy the very goodness of God! Are you a slave of His righteousness?
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
~ Psalm 1:5

Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed,
O God,

The God of my salvation,

And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.

~ Psalm 51:14

Yet, if you warn the wicked,
and he does not turn from his wickedness,
nor from his wicked way,
he shall die in his iniquity;
but you have delivered your soul…

Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man
that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin,
he shall surely live because he took warning;
also you will have delivered your soul.”
~ Ezekiel 3:19 & 21

“But if a wicked man turns from all his sins
which he has committed,

keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right,
he shall surely live; he shall not die.”
~ Ezekiel 18:21

And do not present your members
as instruments of unrighteousness to sin,

but present yourselves to God
as being alive from the dead,

and your members as instruments
of righteousness to God.
~ Romans 6:13

And having been set free from sin,
you became slaves of righteousness.
~ Romans 6:18

  1. I followed the link to your one-on-one meeting … I was just becoming aware of blogging around this time last year … there's a lot of passion in these words.

  2. I'm ashamed to say I don't know much about these proceedings or this candidate. You have inspired me to be more responsible and check it out. I'm sending you hugs, soapbox and all!

If you have somethin' to say, I reckon this is where you should do it. (If you're a newbie hereabouts, your first comment will be held for approval - cuts down on spam.) Thank ye for chatting!
