Baptism and Faith

A Story, Listening When He Speaks, Photo Story
October 25, 2006
During prayer time, this (not quite 3-year old then) little fella asked us how he could “get God in my’s heart too” after listening to his dad and mom pray for the souls of family and friends who have not yet given their lives to the Lord.

He became a warrior for Christ when he knelt in prayer
with his dad and mom and asked Jesus to be the Lord of his life.

Before the submersion baptisms in the nearby creek, this six-year old stood before the congregation and all the visitors
and told of his relationship with Jesus Christ.
Then pastor J. took the microphone and shared how this little fella’s own daddy would baptize his son.

God does not want us to have a faith dependent upon our circumstances.

the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,
because it neither sees Him nor knows Him;
but you know Him,
for He dwells with you
and will be in you.
~ John 14:17

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in My name,
He will teach you all things,
and bring to your remembrance all things
that I said to you.
~ John 14:26

Hear, my son, and receive my sayings,
And the years of your life will be many.

I have taught you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in right paths.

When you walk, your steps will not be hindered,
And when you run, you will not stumble.

Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go;
Keep her, for she is your life.
~ Proverbs 4:10-13

For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
~ Galatians 5:5

Yesterday, twelve folks from our little country church were baptized in the creek out back. Ranging from my son’s age to the most elderly and frail, some dedicated their lives for the first time, while others reconfirmed their commitment to Christ.

It was indeed a joyous time of celebration, tears, and renewal.

I discovered all the hands that went into that blessed day were as varied as the souls being saved… And all the hands held something precious, especially when they reached for another in a grasp of His enduring love.

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the LORD
In the land of the living.
~ Psalm 27:13

For the soul of every living thing is in the hand of God,
and the breath of all mankind..
~ Job 12:10 (TLB)

the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior,
not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—
that they admonish the young women to love their husbands,
to love their children,
to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good,
obedient to their own husbands,
that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
~ Titus 2:3-5

Son, may you always be a fisher of souls.
And may God guide your heart as you cast His lines.

Your daddy and I love you with the very fiber of our beings.
As our souls unite with yours to enlarge God’s kingdom,
we are honored to call you our blessed son.

You indeed are our warrior for Christ.

Thank you Jesus for all of these fine gifts…

Your Son,
Your Love,
our salvation,
& our blessed son!

Can I get an “amen” and “praise the Lord” from you all?!

  4. So meaningful, but even more so in that his dad got to baptize him. My dad babtized my children and that made those moments even more precious. As S. said, "Well documented."Beautiful–simply beautiful. What a wonderful time to share together.
