September Sky

One Nation Under God, Poetry, Scripture Talk, Ugly-Beauty

September Sky, so deeply blue,
like a million azure crayons
plucked & melted & painted
across autumn’s eager face.

With depths so clear

I could gulp it down
my parched throat
or ladle it with
a big, wooden spoon.

Cold mornings give way
to crunchy leaves
and split firewood
drying in afternoon sun.

Giant clicking grasshoppers,
pollen-laden bumble bees,
daringly close butterflies,
all dance, as if drunk
on this September Sky.

Jet trails,
white & scattering
ribbons unfurling,
like frosting waves,
eaten by the azure

One September Sky
tasted them no more
because unthinkable,
America’s shores.

For days after
only birds flew.
And people
tears enough to fall
like torrential rains
from the depths
of a September Sky.

So deeply blue,
like a million azure crayons
plucked & melted & painted
across autumn’s weeping face.

May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
May the LORD rejoice in His works.
He looks on the earth, and it trembles;
He touches the hills, and they smoke.

I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

May my meditation be sweet to Him;
I will be glad in the LORD.

May sinners be consumed from the earth,
And the wicked be no more.

Bless the LORD, O my soul!
Praise the LORD!

~ Psalm 104:31-35 (NKJV)

I extend my heart and prayers to those who lost love and friendship
and husbands and wives and mothers and fathers
and sisters and brothers and sons and daughters
nine years ago while an azure September sky wept.

May God’s blessings comfort
and strengthen you.
