Monday Music: Fringe Rider

Love God Love People, Poetry

I took a poetic-al wondering wander (or maybe it was a wandering wonder) early this morning.

.

It lead me to these words and the paired image. Of course it sparked my mind and sent my synapses a firing’ bang! bang! whiz-bang! The result? I remembered a Chris LeDoux (and Jon Bon Jovi) tune so I plunked it there at the end.

.

.

I’ve always been a fringe rider

A not just like everyone else imbiber

.

It’s a hard drive

to balance

 .

humility

with depression

and eagerness with

I’m not gonna please

ya just because

 .

sorta stuff

 .

I’ve always been

a fringe

rider

A not

just like everyone

else

imbiber

… there are

daze

when I think about

buying a cookie-cutter.

(Shocking,

I

know.)

Then I trade my

high horse

for

a

drum.

.

.

.

.

Bang a drum for the dying

Bang a drum for the truth.

Bang a drum for the innocence lost in our youth.

Bang a drum, bang it loudly or as soft as you need.

Bang a drum for your brother and a drum for me.

.

I don’t know where all the rivers run.

I don’t know how far, I don’t know how come.

But I’m gonna die believing –

that each step that I take

ain’t worth the ground that I walk on

if we don’t walk it our own way.

.

I don’t claim to be a wise man, a poet or a saint.

Just another man who searching for a better way.

But my heart beats loud as thunder

for the things that I believe.

.

Sometimes I wanna run for cover

Sometimes I wanna scream.

Bang a drum for tomorrow, bang a drum for the past.

Bang a drum for the heroes who won’t come back.

Bang a drum for the promise, bang a drum for the lies.

Bang a drum for the lovers and the tears they’ve cried.

Bang a drum, bang it loudly or as soft as you need.

.

But as long as my heart keeps on beatin’ –

I’ve got reason

to believe.

..

.

* Included just above are partial song lyrics from a Chris LeDoux tune called “Bang A Drum” and it seems to me that I’ve posted it hereabouts before. If’n you wanna hear the words & watch a video, scroll down to do it, but be forewarned, the dudes say something’ about kicking’ a@$ one time, so if that’ll offend your purty little ears, I reckon you better plug ’em partway through.

.

.

.

I’ve always been a fringe rider & I doubt that’ll change anytime soon.

  1. S. Etole says:

Once I realized you had said “fringe” rider, not “fridge” rider, it all made sense!

  2. lschontos says:

Susan makes me smile (I almost read it that way at first too!). I admire the fringe riders. I’ve never been brave enough but always longed to be. I’ll let you lead, and I’ll follow!

If you have somethin' to say, I reckon this is where you should do it. (If you're a newbie hereabouts, your first comment will be held for approval - cuts down on spam.) Thank ye for chatting!
