Oftentimes, Among My Mind…

I cannot dance upon my Toes –
No Man instructed me –
But oftentimes, among my mind…

.

.

Among your mind What?

Do tell!

.

What the hey-diddle diddle happens among your mind

when you’ve entered someplace you’ve never been before,

but desperately want to be?

.

Do you pout,

cry,

whine,

have a come-apart,

or

eat a pity-full tart?

.

Betcha’ would surprise you

and me

(and a skinny, fartin’ dog with big, fat fleas)

if ya pulled yourself up by your bootstraps,

put on your big girl/boy britches

laced your scared little self in

nice-n-tight –

 you know,

so ya can barely breathe

.

and just got ‘er done!

.

Whatever you do

(and whomever you drag along

as your accomplice)

and however you address the above question,

always remember this tidbit:

high heels

& ballet slippers

are rarely needed.

first three lines of a poem, borrowed by me –

from miss Emily Dickinson (“I Cannot Dance Upon My Toes”)

So, how would you finish the poem?

I cannot dance upon my Toes –
No Man instructed me –
But oftentimes, among my mind….

  1. lschontos says:

    I twirl with liberty.
    I write the words –
    Abandoned grace
And no one laughs at me!

  2. I cannot dance upon my Toes –
    No Man instructed me –
    But oftentimes, among my mind
i fly over the bright blue sea.

  3. Did you? Dance upon yer toes? No poetry from this tired lady. But I’m imagining you spinning and spinning and spinning…

    • No, I didn’t dance — at least not in that ballroom. I took this image at about 6am whilst wondering around the fancy-pants hotel we stayed in two weeks ago.

And you are right, when I do dance (western swing), I spin like a tilt-a-whirl at the hands of my tall man.

      Blessings.

  4. I cannot dance upon my Toes –
    No Man instructed me –
    But oftentimes, among my mind…
    a dance I didn’t have
    to learn stumbles among
    the other toes.

    (How’s that for a 10 p.m. contribution?)

    • Miss M –

It’s a grande late night contribution! That’s it, isn’t it, doing what isn’t required of us.

      BLessings.

  5. I cannot dance upon my Toes –
    No Man instructed me –
    But oftentimes, among my mind

    I’m dancing by the sea.

Okay, that’s kinda lame, but true. I’d almost always rather be at the beach. Especially on this rainy Houston day.

    • Miss Kathy –

Not lame. I miss the sea. Before we moved our 4 times, we were only an hour from Astoria (go Goonies!)… now I’m back in the mountains, but I shore-ly miss the waves.

      Blessings.
