Postmarked to America

[Yesterday I wrote a letter to God. And today, well, I’ve got one for America. I’m dismayed and a little discouraged, but not downcast, nor hopeless. Why? My salvation is secure. If you don’t yet know the Lord as your Savior, but wanna know more, leave me a note in the comments. If you haven’t done it yet, now is the time to get right with God.]

Dear America,

.

You are a big hunk o’ land with soil, red with freedom’s blood and filled with bones of those who came here for tyrannical escape; and yes, yes, for religious freedoms. In the early days, your people did their utmost to set forth protection by penning the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

.

Your people have been drawn into battles overseas and over lands. And your folks have been a light for the world for a really long time – mainly because of the people’s Christian foundation and their high moral standard.

.

Tenacity, grit, and stubborn determination – all of it is interwoven in this land. As for me, I cannot escape that it is also in who I am.

.

But you must understand something, you did not come first, God did.

.

He made you. And His people made you red, white and blue.

.

Now, this day is a hard one for lots of your folks to face with a smile. But smile we shall, even if we feel betrayed. I know you see the heads held high, the hands clasped in prayer, and the unity of straight and narrow believers.

.

It’s been awhile though, huh? But here we are. I think we’ve always been, we’ve just been quiet. Too quiet. No, I’m not looking for a revolution. Actually, I’m looking for a revival.

.

I wanna stand shoulder to shoulder with my Christian Patriots while we stand for what is righteous and right; assist the least of these among us; love the people in our paths; pray to the God of our salvation; help others secure a place at the banquet table; and protect those who cannot do it for themselves.

.

Even though this land is where our tenacity, grit, and stubborn determination will play out, know that the threads of our flag are woven by  hands that know our kingdom is with the King.

.

.

May God bless you,

Darlene

.

.

P.S. I’m sorry if we’ve let you down.
