Sweet Spot

That sweet spot, that one right there where night’s shadows dissolve into dawn as daylight creeps slow ‘n stead over the mountain –

.

That sweet spot, that one right there where your physical body is so tired from a full day’s work that sleep comes easy and you know it’s a gift that tomorrow holds more of the same –

.

That sweet spot, that one right there where the long dirt road finds you alone and in an impulsive instant you press bare foot to accelerator while a country crooner blares and your long hair flies wild –

.

That sweet spot, that one right there where you are splayed out on a September inner tube, belly up, arms wide, with head leaned into rubber as you bob on the aftermath of jet boat waves –

.

That sweet spot, that one right there where the scent of fresh-brewed coffee fills the cold room and tickles your nose as you hold an empty mug in morning’s stillness –

.

That sweet spot, that one right there where you oversee your son touch match fire to crumbled paper and stacked kindling as because summer has waned to autumn’s rally –

.

That sweet spot, that one right there where His Word lures you to pray, read, underline, and scratch sideline notes; and as a result, Truth finds, clarifies, and convicts you to be & do the utmost –

.

That sweet spot, that one right there where you understand and live out what it means to forget the Jones’ on down yonder road and you do the best you can, with what you have, while you are able –

That sweet spot, that one right there –

it’s not an outta reach secret;

no sirree buckaroo,

you just have to breathe deep and

slow down long enough to realize

you’ve already got it in your grasp.
