jeans jeans

everywhere the

jeans – city, country

especially there – rural

folk wear ’em Friday and

don’t call it casual – because

it’s the same as every other day

where they work. ride. live. breathe.

too tight jeans, collared and t-shirts, lips

j1326sd

glossed to shine, blue eye shadow,

feathered hair – can sprayed, back

pocket comb sometimes rattled

loose around pulsating roller rink

skates criss-cross laced, double knots

down low and ground close, limboed

under broom handle again and

again strobe light, cute boys, Rick

Springfield, the Go-Go’s, friends

enticed soda bubbles up clear

plastic cup – and i wished i could just

unbutton my jeans and breathe.

(in hopeful anticipation of heat)

summer is rodeo, wranglers, straw hats, boots, c’boys, horses, dust, hot bleachers, bull snot

sunscreen, swim suits, bare feet in sneakers, muscle shirts, stereo music, eating cherries,

spitting seeds, the frayed edges of cut-offs tickling the backside of my knees.

(denim threads)

red thread bright against

denim

seams stitched

straight down legs

and zippered front

homemade jeans – made to please.

how could she know her flourish of

red

thread sewn in loops and twirls,

zigs and zags would incite

laughter locker-lined hallway

riots?

red thread bright against

denim

mocked mean because of frugal love.

at least little sister’s pockets

were sewn with golden, dull

thread.

I’ve always been a fringe rider

j9076sda not just like everyone else imbiber

It’s a hard line

to balance humble with individual

and eagerness with

I’m not gonna please

ya just because

sorta stuff

I’ve always been

a fringe

rider

A not just like

everyone else

imbiber

There are

daze

when I think about

buying a cookie-cutter

then I trade my

high horse

for

a

drum.

Great words, Darlene! I’m in my Capri jeans right now – and wishing I could breathe easier. ☺

You just about covered all things jeans and brought back some old memories. I miss the days of less choices… and 501’s…
